Stabilisation

A common problem with raw footage is steadiness. I have minimized this issue by using a Steadicam. However, this problem can be fixed during post-production through stabilisation. Below is a video showing the use of it and how effective it can be in certain situations.

Audience Research

I carried out a survey that helped me research what types of music video were most popular, and what forms of viewing were carried out most. I have printed the results below

Music Video Theory

Colour Correction

Colour correction is a process used to alter the overall color of the light.The light color is measured on a scale known as color temperature.

I felt that colour correction would improve my video. I used a filter effects chain in Sony Vegas Pro 12.0 to bring out the blue colours in the footage. I felt that this gave my Music Video a 'live' feel to it in comparison to the white, red and yellow lighting from the redhead lighting.

Below is a comparison of my first and second draft; the first draft rendered without colour correction filters and the second draft with colour correction added.

Artist styling / costume planning

I researched artist styling and clothing for Noel Gallagher to ensure my model dresses in relation to the genre of the song.

Noel Gallagher often wears shirts and jeans when performing live on stage, sometimes with a leather jacket. The rest of the band dress similarly to Noel.

I used the above images to base my costume design around.

Props

I have researched into possible props that I will use for my music video. I looked for generic cinema tickets on a search engine that will be used in several narrative scenes to describe the storyline to the reader.

Research into the music genre and it's influences

Although Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds are considered as an alternative rock band, I feel that they incorporate many features of Britpop into their songs.

Britpop is a British alternative rock movement that begun in the 1990s, it developed through the appearance of bands who borrowed influences from the 1960s and 1970s.

Britpop restored the patriotism in the aftermath of Grunge when British Indie pop bands decided it was the 60’s and 70’s again. Suede kick-started it, Oasis and Blur made the most money from it.

One of the key factors that led to Britpop’s growth was Grunge. In 1990 to about 1992 the wake of the American invasion were led by grunge bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam.

Grunge and Britpop bands differed greatly in styles; they ranged from the massive guitar roar of Oasis and the defiantly British pop of Blur to the disco/glam-rock pastiche of Pulp and progressive rock of Radiohead.

The influences of alternative rock came from the early forms of rock from the 1950s to the 1980s. Rock 'n' Roll and Punk were the main influences to how Alternative Rock sounds today.

Equipment Choices

I researched into possible equipment that I would require for my music video. This included filming equipment, as well as props that would be used in the video itself. Below is a list of equipment that I will use for my Music Video Shoot. I will update this as I find new pieces of equipment that I feel I could use in my shoot.
