Analysis of Magazine Adverts

There are different ways of making an effective magazine advert.

Most music album magazine adverts focus on a main image. The main image, along with the font of the text, is often based on the theme of the album. The magazine advert for Ellie Goulding's album "Lights" refers to the title itself - it uses a shimmering effect on the main image by applying it to the outline of Ellie's hair as well as to the background. The references to "Lights" is also shown in the text, with a 'glow' effect used on the outline of the title.

The second magazine advert I analysed was a Thirty Seconds To Mars poster. This advert uses a different approach to advertising, as it does not contain any images, and instead focuses the reader's attention to the name of the band.

Green Day's "American Idiot" album promotional magazine advert is very similar to their album cover art. This can be seen as effective in some ways as it presents to readers what they will get if they were to buy the album. However, it doesn't add much more to entice the reader to buy the album in the first place. The simplicity of the poster art could refer to the genre of music and the youthful and rebellious connotations that come with it, and how the band are not following the 'rules' of advertising.
